Often we think everyone has what they need.  We don’t SEE what they actually need.   I don’t mean material needs.  I suspect anyone over a  certain age  has most of the things they really NEED.   I think of all the things I prefer not to do that are a bit more dangerous.   Like clean out a gutter or simply put in a bulb on a ceiling light.   I think those things are big obstacles for the older person who isn’t as flexible or able to climb.  Or maybe it is an occasional ride, an ear to just listen, or a visit?

May I suggest if you are a young person without much money, but with a big heart, you ask that elderly neighbor if you can help them with a task.  For some families, raking leaves, and doing outside work is rather fun and something people do together.  I had an Aunt and Uncle with a summer resort.   We used to gather together –all the kids especially, a few weekends each Fall and rake leaves.   I think about that now many years after the fact, and understand how helpful that was for them.  file-oct-22-1-10-29-pm

On an even broader spectrum, there are the techno things that people need help with on an everyday scale.   I was helping a friend learn how to use her phone.   Since I use mine for so many things and need to know it pretty well, I was able to in a few minutes help her decipher a simple answer to a monumental problem for her.  It didn’t take much time!

As we enter into the New Year and get past the official window of gift giving, you might want to consider who needs help.  Often people don’t ask and would like someone to offer.   Just saying it might be the best thing you do this January!

Today as I went to church, I think I was feeling really lonely.   I didn’t realize it, until someone gave me a BIG BEAR HUG.   Wow.   It made driving in the bad weather all worth it.   Furthermore, it made me feel seen and appreciated.  Often the world is revolving at such a fast pace, that we get lost as it spins around us!

Have a great Monday!   You are wonderful;  take care as we approach the Holidays.  “Delight in Living!”
