I absolutely love apples, but more so in the Fall when they are fresh off the trees.   For many years we had apple trees.  They would fill 15-20 bushels; some “horse” quality and the rest for applesauce, baked apples, and eating.   One yearimg_0803 I made 14 strudels for our freezer.  We no longer have the trees and I no longer have a house full of children to bake for each Fall.  I have moved on to working outside the house, but the memories of apples and cinnamon smelling up the house are greatly missed.   So I will make applesauce and an apple crisp for old times sake!

Apples are good fruit for us.   An apple a day keeps the doctor away must have value.   It is a fruit loaded with fiber.  The website www.nutrition-and-you.com/apple-fruit.html tells us that apples are filled with phyto-nutrients, and anti-oxidants that are needed for “optimal growth, development, and overall wellness.”

I do think apples are fun to eat; crunchy and fresh tasting.   Lately, I love them cut up in pieces in oatmeal with raisins and cinnamon.   They are wonderful in salads to add a bit of natural sweetness.  Baked apples with a scoop of cold cottage cheese tastes yummy for an easy breakfast. An apple is a versatile ingredient that can be used in many dishes.   Just be creative and have fun with them.

Apple orchards provide fun for the family.   Our own trees were great for climbing and days of picking them.   I do miss them, but not all the work in caring for them.

Well I am feeling welcomed into Fall with the last week of cooler weather.  Are you enjoying the switch in temperatures and the change in our diets that come along with the change.   Soups, fresh breads, chili, homemade pies, and roasts will fill the house with delightful fragrances. Enjoy all that the changing seasons offer.   Here are few websites with great recipe ideas.   Enjoy the week and “Delight in Living”
