August was a lonely month for me as I grew up. This is the month for my birthday and all my friends were on vacation. School wasn’t in session so I couldn’t have a party with friends and worst of all no one knew! Yes I hear you saying “Boo Hoo”.
Well I have to tell you that somewhere along the line, I began to love my Birthday month. I’d go out to lunch with a friend. Shop till I dropped looking for Fall clothes and suddenly realized our Birthdays often mean more to our mothers than to us.
My mother died when I was 35 years old; she always tried to make our family parties special. I had an older cousin who made me “doll” cakes during my teen years. I soon learned though that we need to honor ourselves and relish in the fact that we have another day to celebrate! It is a wonderful thing when we get a spark of self knowledge.
Now today is one of my Granddaughter’s Birthdays. She was a gift to me and I was so excited when she was born one day before my birthday. What great timing. Here she is with her Pinata for her friends to share her 6th Birthday with her. Her older sister is studying to be a teacher and so her creative skills came into play to make this for her. I just loved the idea and the cherry on top. (I think she should start making and selling “topical pinatas” for parties.) If you want one just let me know and I’ll pass your request on to her!
The garland in their house is made of rows of cupcake wrappers all strung into pretty rows! And no doubt cupcakes will be there! I hope each one carries the joy for her. Birthdays define how old we are and helps mark the highlights of our lives. This will be the Christmas of “all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth” because this darling is losing all her front baby teeth.
She is our dancer and singer. Can’t take credit for the singing, but I loved dancing in musical performances as a child so I am living vicariously through her joy in doing that! Birthdays can bring out the best in us.
Suddenly everyone I know has an August Birthday and we are all achievers in some way. We roar (Leo is the Zodiac symbol) through life and enjoy the smallest, as well as, the biggest achievements. We tend to love people and give our lives to making things good for one another.
Tomorrow is my Birthday and I am super excited to be alive. I have so many more blogs to write, podcasts to develop, E books are coming, and talks to give. I just appreciate all the life ahead.
My sister-in-law Barb also shares a birthday with me. My brother jokingly said when they married that he picked a girl with the same date so he couldn’t forget our birthdays; I am sure that is true.
Happy Birthday everyone! Enjoy today and every day! Delight in Living! And don’t forget to look for those Mini Miracles that will be popping up to surprise you.
